DEPARTMENT OF PSYCHIATRY UND PSYCHOTHERAPY

Outpatient Therapy

The Psychiatric Institute Outpatient Clinic (PIA) offers outpatient psychiatric and psychotherapeutic care primarily for people from the city of Magdeburg and the surrounding area, but it is also open to other patients.

The PIA's treatment services are aimed at patients with mental illnesses who require a high and/or multiprofessional level of treatment, or for whom no other adequate treatment options exist, e.g.

  • particularly severe and/or chronic courses of illness
  • treatment of recently discharged inpatients who still have an increased need for special therapeutic services
  • emergency and crisis intervention

The primary goals are: to ensure continuity of treatment, avoid admissions, shorten inpatient treatment and reach patient groups that are inadequately cared for.

The following conditions are treated as a main focus:

    • disorders of the schizophrenic spectrum
    • affective disorders
    • anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorders
    • organic disorders and dementias

Polyclinic (University Outpatient Clinic)

The polyclinic offers medium- and longer-term outpatient psychiatric and psychotherapeutic treatment. The type of treatment strategy is chosen individually and according to the disorder. In addition to longer-term treatments, crisis interventions are also carried out. Patient seminars and self-help groups give patients the opportunity to actively contribute to coping with their illness themselves.
